In 1999, three people with a shared vision began offering nature-connection programs in the seacoast region of Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Co-Founders Dan and Kate Gardoqui and Matt Wild started with a monthly wildlife tracking program and a weekly homeschool program for just five children.
Today, over a dozen Piney staffers reach nearly 2,000 toddlers, kids, tweens, teens, adults and elders with transformative nature connection experiences annually. We’re working hard to find new ways to reach more under-served youth in our region with the power of nature connection.
We empower people to strengthen their communities and themselves by building lasting connections to the natural world. When nature is seen, known and respected through direct experience, it becomes easily integrated in our daily lives and consciousness. Our view of ourselves expands, and we see more clearly our own place in the world. Children engage, try things and gain competence and confidence, teens find a place they will always belong, and adults unplug and feel inspired again. Together, we create more resilient communities, and a more connected and cared for world.
